Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits many of them based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in affection with Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his new state brought many people to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame states the fact that John Denver is unlike any other performer who has the recognizable image of Colorado. In 2011, Denver was named the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. Denver has been the symbol of Colorado for people all over. In all my travels I've met a lot of individuals who do not hail from Colorado. They'll declare, "Oh John Denver!" whenever they learn that you're from Colorado. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief period in small folk ensembles. Danoff wrote the tune in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered an early version of the song and realized it was going to be one of the Top 10 hits. Danoff recorded the song within a couple of days of playing in Washington D.C. before an crowd that was extremely enthusiastic.
